No specific subject nor article were negotiated as the main objective of the meeting was to agree on the working method, the 4-column document to be negotiated and the calendar
During the meeting, the European Commission took the floor to reiterate its dissatisfaction with the decision on the role of the EUIPO and on the “wine package” which in its view is redundant. The Commission has the power to block the European Parliament and the Council to make a decision when it strongly disagrees with the co-legislator. To do so, it may ask the Council to vote at unanimity on a specific aspect.
The EP and the Council have decided to divide the text into technical and political points (the list of articles is yet to be drafted and agreed upon). Under the Swedish Presidency, only the technical points will be discussed.
The calendar is ambitious as the co-legislators have agreed to only 3 trilogue meetings before the vote in October.
The schedule should be as follow:
- 12/14/27 June technical meeting
- 7/12 July technical meeting
- 18 July trilogue meeting
- 8/12/18 September technical meeting
- 27 September last trilogue meeting
